Digital Design Final Exam

Digital Design Final Exam

The artwork I chose to make displays a purpose, 3 Elements of Art, and 3 Principles of Design. My art’s purpose is Artistic Expression. This type of art expresses or communicates emotions, ideas, and feelings. In my artwork, everything represents something in my life. The orange and blue represents my school colors. I love my school so I chose to include those colors in my artwork. The purple and yellow represents my elementary school colors. This is where my learning began so it is very important to me. The red and green stands for my favorite holiday, Christmas. All these colors show my feelings toward something.
The 3 Elements of Art I used in my art are shape, color, and value. Shape was displayed by the circles, squares, and pentagons. These shapes are all geometric. Color was a stand out in my art. I chose to go with the complementary art scheme. Each shape has a different complementary pair of colors. The colors used are also either primary or secondary. The third element is value. Value is shown in my work by a variation or shade of each original color. For example, the first pentagon is orange. Every other pentagon in the artwork is a different shade of orange, whether it is lighter or darker.
The 3 Principles of Design I used in my work are pattern, contrast, and unity. Pattern is a very key thing in my art. One pattern is color. For example, each shape uses a different color scheme like purple and yellow. Since the first circle is yellow, the second is purple, the third is yellow, and the fourth is purple, and so on. This is the pattern for all three shapes. Another pattern would be the shapes themselves. Pentagon, circle, square could be a pattern. Another principle that stands out is contrast, by adding a dark gray background, the bright colors of the shapes stands out even more. The colors of the shapes also contrast with one another. The orange and blue contrast since they are opposite on the color wheel. And the final principle used is unity. Unity is when wholeness is achieved. By overlapping the shapes, unity was created. It appears to me that the shapes seem to fit together like a puzzle piece, or like they are meant to be there.
